What is a Société Civile Immobilière (SCI), and it is a useful legal vehicle to buying French property?
It is possible to buy property in France using a French property company called a Société Civile Immobilière (SCI).
It's a structure that is particularly suitable where the property is to be purchased by multiple, unrelated owners, or an extended family.
There can also be inheritance tax advantages.
Nevertheless, the benefits that once existed for using an SCI have, to a large extent, been superceded by changes in the law, and were probably never has strong as were claimed. It's strongest proponents have always been those who would be earning fees setting one up for you.
We have recently updated our 10-page guide to setting up and running an SCI, which you can read about at Guide to Société Civile Immobilière (SCI).
