The level of social insurance contributions for business owners in France is high; between 13% and 26% of turnover for micro-entrepreneurs and around 35% of net profits for those using profit and loss accounting.
To help ease this burden, new business owners have for many years been able to benefit from a reduction in social security contributions.
However, this progress has not come without a gradual reduction in assistance. The level of support has been scaled back from 75% to 50% or 25%, depending on the business’s status. In addition, eligibility is now limited to the first year of activity, whereas until 2021 support had been available for up to three years.
The list of eligible applicants is also more restricted, although of interest to many international owners will be the fact that it is available to any new business owner setting up in an urban or rural development area, of which there are many in France.
We have updated our guide to the assistance that is available, which you can read at Social Security Relief.
