The cost of the certificat d'immatriculation (also known as the carte grise) varies according to different criteria, notably by the region in which the owner lives and, for new vehicles, by the pollution level of the vehicle.
Since January 1st, 2023, there have been increases in both the regional and, most significantly, in the pollution taxes, which are set out in our updated Guide to Vehicle Registration Taxes in France.
